Questions about Christmas markets in Derbyshire

When do Christmas markets start in Derbyshire?

Derbyshire's first markets open on Saturday 7 November 2026: the Christmas Market at Chatsworth, which runs to Sunday 13 December, and Buxton's Artist and Designer Fair, which closes on Sunday 8 November. Mercatum at Haddon Hall opens from Wednesday to Sunday each week from Wednesday 11 November to Sunday 20 December, and Bakewell Christmas Market fills Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November. Calke's Curly Magpie Christmas Markets are held daily between Friday 27 November and Wednesday 23 December; Buxton's Christmas Fair & Santa's Grotto takes the first weekend of December, Saturday 5 and Sunday 6. Each card shows the dates.

What are the opening times of Derbyshire's Christmas markets?

Most open from about 9am or 10am and close between 4pm and 6pm. The Christmas Market at Chatsworth opens at 10am and closes at 5.30pm from Monday to Thursday and at 6pm from Friday to Sunday. The Calke markets trade daily between 10am and 4pm, both Buxton fairs from 10am to 5pm, and Bakewell Christmas Market from 9am to 5pm. Mercatum at Haddon Hall is split into timed sessions, morning, afternoon and twilight, on every day it opens.

Are dogs allowed at Christmas markets in Derbyshire?

Chatsworth and Calke welcome dogs on a lead at their Christmas markets; at the others, dogs are kept out of the buildings or the market has not said. Chatsworth asks for well-behaved dogs on leads and warns that it can get very busy, and Calke welcomes dogs on a short lead at the markets and in the Stableyards, while assistance dogs alone may enter the house, the tunnels or St Giles Church. At Pavilion Gardens, the building that houses both Buxton fairs is open to assistance dogs only, though other dogs are welcome in the park. Haddon admits only assistance dogs to Mercatum, and Bakewell Christmas Market has published no dog rule.

Which Christmas markets in Derbyshire are free to enter?

Both Buxton fairs at Pavilion Gardens are free to enter, and the Christmas Market at Chatsworth charges nothing to get in, though car park tickets must be booked in advance and cannot be bought at the gate. Calke charges a single admission for the market and the rest of the estate, house and tunnels included; members of the National Trust go free and need not book. Mercatum tickets at Haddon Hall are sold online only, ahead of your visit, and never on the day. Bakewell Christmas Market has not published entry details.

Is there parking at Christmas markets in Derbyshire?

Yes, though each market handles it differently. At Chatsworth, once the main car park fills, cars go to trackways across the parkland, with a tractor and trailer shuttle to the market. Calke does not charge for parking, with one car park by the Ticket Office and a second at Calke Explore, and adult Mercatum tickets at Haddon include parking in the car park on the A6 opposite the Hall. In Buxton, the Pavilion Gardens car park on St John's Road is pay and display, and Blue Badge holders pay nothing in any bay. Bakewell Christmas Market has not published parking details.

Are Derbyshire's Christmas markets wheelchair accessible?

Several publish clear access information. Visitors reach the Octagon Hall at Pavilion Gardens on one level from the car park, and at Calke there is step-free access to the Riding School by the rear doors or from the restaurant courtyard, with sensory bags, including ear defenders, to borrow from the ticket office. Chatsworth's market sits on an incline, with ramps on request and a Changing Places toilet near the house entrance. At Haddon's Mercatum there is no wheelchair access and pushchairs are not admitted. Bakewell Christmas Market has not published access details.

Every market is listed from the details its organisers and venues publish.
