When is the Mercatum Christmas Artisan Market at Haddon Hall?
Wednesday 11 November to Sunday 20 December 2026, Wednesday to Sunday each week and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The six weekends are 11 to 15 November, 18 to 22 November, 25 to 29 November, 2 to 6 December, 9 to 13 December and 16 to 20 December.
What are the session times?
There are three timed sessions on each opening day. Morning: 9.15am to 12.45pm (car park opens 8.30am). Afternoon: 1.00pm to 4.30pm (car park opens 12.45pm). Twilight: 3.00pm to 4.30pm (car park opens 2.45pm), new for 2026. The Hall, grounds and car park are cleared between the morning and afternoon sessions, so to stay all day buy both a morning and an afternoon ticket, or a Green Travel ticket. Last admission is 3.45pm.
Where is it, and how do I get there?
At Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Derbyshire, DE45 1LA (what3words ///blossom.revisits.asset). Haddon says the Hall is on the A6 between Bakewell and Rowsley, 2 miles south of Bakewell, and recommends putting the car park (A6, Bakewell, DE45 1LA) into your sat nav, or following the brown tourist signs from Bakewell or Rowsley. Haddon says a bus stop is right outside the Hall, served by buses from Matlock and Bakewell.
How much are tickets, and do I need to book?
Yes: Haddon says pre-booking is essential, no tickets are sold on the day and the market is expected to sell out. For 2026 an adult ticket is £13.60, a child (5 to 15) £5.00 and an infant (0 to 4) is free. Green Travel tickets are £10.50 for an adult and £5.00 for a child. Twilight tickets are £7.50 for an adult and £2.50 for a child. Tickets can only be bought online, through Haddon Hall's website. They are non-refundable, but Haddon says they can be moved to another date, subject to availability, up to 14 days before the event if you created an account at checkout, for a £5.00 admin fee.
What is a Green Travel ticket?
Haddon says Green Travel tickets are for visitors arriving by public transport, bicycle or on foot. They are valid all day (9.15am to 4.30pm), with arrival any time before 3.45pm, and proof of travel is needed on entry. They can only be bought online beforehand and cannot use the car park.
Is parking included?
Haddon says parking is included with Mercatum adult tickets. The car park is on the A6, opposite the Hall; Green Travel tickets cannot use it. Haddon says some parking and stalls are on grass or in the grounds, which can get muddy in wet weather, so wear suitable footwear.
Are dogs allowed?
No. Haddon says dogs are not permitted at Mercatum, except assistance dogs. Haddon says dogs can use the public footpath opposite the Hall, and water bowls are provided in the car park.
Is it accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs?
Haddon says access can be difficult because of the age of the building and its limestone hill location: entry involves steps, and the cobbled, uneven floors have no handrails. Haddon says wheelchair access is not available at Mercatum and that pushchairs cannot be admitted; it suggests a baby carrier. Call the Hall Office on 01629 810912 before buying tickets if you have questions.
What is there to eat and drink?
Haddon says many food and drink stalls are inside Mercatum, with street food, hot chocolate and mulled wine, and live music. Food and drink outlets open from 8.30am. The Hall also has a licensed restaurant, but tables cannot be reserved during Mercatum.
What will I find at the market, and where are the stalls?
Haddon says the market takes place in the decorated rooms, galleries and courtyard of Medieval Haddon, with stalls throughout the Hall, gardens and grounds, and your ticket includes entry to the Hall and gardens. Crafts include ceramics, art, chocolates, jewellery, candles, stationery and perfumes. Haddon says artisans change each week.
How do I apply for a stall?
Haddon welcomes applications from makers working in all forms and materials, through the Mercatum apply page of its website (an online expression of interest form, or a printable form sent to the Estate Office). Haddon says all 2026 winter stalls are now sold out, so the application would be for a later market.
