Great Eccleston Show
The Great Eccleston Show is a two-day celebration of rural life on the Lancashire Fylde, and bills itself as the North West's premier agricultural show. Held over a weekend in July on the show ground at Great Eccleston, near Preston, it has been running for over 170 years and is staged by a registered charity that channels its proceeds back into agriculture and the countryside. The showground fills with livestock — Shire and heavy horses, dairy and beef cattle, sheep and rare breeds, pigs, pygmy goats and light horses — alongside a companion dog show, tractor-pulling, sheep shearing and herding, and Cumberland wrestling. The Food Theatre is a real draw, with celebrity and acclaimed chefs cooking through the day, and a large food hall showcases local produce. Add marquees of horticulture, crafts, baking and photography, demonstrations of traditional rural craftsmen, a Victorian-style funfair, vintage vehicles and machinery, and there is genuinely something for everyone across the two days.
