Neilston Show

Saturday 1 May 2027
Holehouse, Neilston, East Renfrewshire(G78 3LE)

Neilston Show began with an argument: two village farmers each insisted his bull was the better beast, so local farmers judged them. The winner is long forgotten, but the contest came back every year from 1825, and the show has now run for more than two centuries. Held at Holehouse, Neilston, in East Renfrewshire, it is one of the first shows of the farming year. Cattle, sheep and Clydesdales are shown in the main ring, alongside sheepdog trials, show jumping and the Pad Race, a trail run that includes a climb. Schools from Barrhead, Neilston and Uplawmoor compete in relays and tug o' war, and the dog show has classes for the waggiest tail and the best biscuit catcher. The free Educational Dome has over 30 farming and countryside exhibitors for children to meet, and there is a pet show.
