Loweswater Show
Loweswater Show is one of the most authentic traditional Lakeland shows, held each September in the beautiful Lorton Valley on the show field opposite New House Farm, near Loweswater. Run entirely by volunteers as Loweswater & Brackenthwaite Show Limited, it packs a remarkable amount into a single day in a genuinely spectacular fellside setting. The rings run from morning to mid-afternoon with fell ponies, native and miniature Shetland ponies, heavy horses, turnout and carriage driving, while the sheep and goat pens, young-handler classes and working dog rings keep the agricultural heart of the show beating. Open sheepdog trials run on the field alongside, and hound trails set off across the fells from opposite the main gate. The afternoon brings Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, the renowned junior and adult fell races up the surrounding fells, a Concours d'Elegance, children's games and a fancy dress competition, before a Grand Parade and presentation of trophies closes the day. There is an industrial marquee full of home produce and crafts, trade stands, a beer tent and catering — a real fell-farming community show.
