Howden Show
Shows have been part of Howden life since at least 1808, and today's show began in 1862, when the town's agricultural and floral societies joined forces. Still run by a small team of local volunteers, it fills The Ashes Playing Field each July, close to junction 37 of the M62. There are cattle classes, rare-breed sheep and equestrian classes, a fun dog show, handicrafts and horticulture, and children's fancy dress, while around the field you'll find a food festival and public bar, a community tent, trade stands and terrier racing your own dog can have a go at. With a free park and ride into the show, it's an easy summer Sunday in the East Riding.
