Eskdale Show
Home of the World Champion Herdwick, Eskdale Show is a traditional Lakeland day in Cumbria's Eskdale, run by the Fell Dales Association, which was set up more than 150 years ago to improve the Herdwick breed. Fell farmers bring their sheep to compete for the world title, alongside working shepherds' dogs, foxhounds and Lakeland and Jack Russell terriers, crooks and sticks, and vintage machinery. The afternoon belongs to the fells' own sports, with fell races, hound trails and Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, plus children's sports and a tent of handicrafts and produce. Even Beatrix Potter showed her Herdwicks here, and it remains a big day out for the whole valley.
