Over two hundred years of showing stock lie behind Biggar Show. The local club began in 1808 so members could pick up new ideas in farming, and its first show, in 1820, was a cattle-only affair held on the town's own street. Since 1890 this South Lanarkshire agricultural show has made its home at the Showfield on the northern edge of Biggar, a 14-acre field the club bought in 1921. It bills itself as Scotland's best one-day show, and the July day packs in livestock, horses and poultry, Highland dancing, the Ladies Industrial Section and a craft marquee, a dog show, a fun fair, a food fair and trade stands, plus attractions in the main ring. With children's entertainment on the field as well, it is a day out for the whole family.
