York Christmas Market
Back for 2026, York Christmas Market fills the centre of the city with alpine chalets, lined up along Parliament Street and around St Sampson's Square. Stallholders bring local crafts, artisan products, unusual gifts and seasonal food. More than 80% of them are Yorkshire businesses, and many describe their wares as ethical or kind to the environment. The market makes a point of going green: no single-use plastics, cups made from plants that break down within a few months, and low-energy LED lighting. Each day the music stays off from 10.30am until noon. It opens Wednesday to Monday right up to the Monday before Christmas, and on its Tuesday rest day York's shops, historic streets and attractions stay open. Doing your Christmas shopping here helps Yorkshire's own traders.
