Mid Somerset Show

Sunday 15 August 2027
The Mid Somerset Showground, Cannards Grave Road, Shepton Mallet, Somerset(BA4 4GF)

The Mid Somerset Show, the one-day agricultural show of Shepton Mallet, reaches back more than 170 years. Legend says it began in the early 1850s, when a farmers' club formed over a drink in Evercreech's Bell Inn and held its first ploughing match. Today it fills its showground at the edge of this Somerset market town on a Sunday every August. The Cheese Awards judge 66 classes, Stilton and Brie to Cheddar, with the winners auctioned in the afternoon, alongside the Somerset Cider Championships. The Main Ring stages a mini Grand National for Shetland ponies; elsewhere there is terrier racing, a have-a-go event for gundogs, a vintage section, and sheep, cattle and pigs in the livestock classes. Entry is free for pedestrians, and the show says it draws 18,000 visitors.
