Garstang Show
The Garstang Show is a true celebration of Lancashire's farming, food and countryside, held each summer on the Garstang Showfield just outside the market town. Run by the Garstang & District Agricultural & Horticultural Society — a society founded in 1809, with its first show held in 1813 — the day is, at heart, about bringing the local community together around rural life. In the Main Ring there is a packed timetable of livestock classes for cattle, sheep, goats, horses, poultry and rabbits, plus a Grand Parade of champion stock and vintage vehicles. A real highlight is the Sheep Show, a fun presentation introducing nine different sheep breeds — each with its own story and theme tune, and Nobby the Norfolk Horn stealing the limelight. The Food Hall showcases local artisan producers, the Artisan Craft Tent is full of work by Lancashire crafters, and there is a popular Fun Dog Show with light-hearted classes such as "Dog Most Like its Owner" and "Best Sausage-Catcher". Add the Astral Circus in its iconic stripey big top, a vintage vehicle display, fairground rides for little ones, live music from the Wigan Ukulele Band, and trade stands from local businesses, and it makes for a friendly, well-organised country day out that is lively without being overwhelming.
