Folkestone Festive Marketplace
Folkestone's Harbour Arm juts out into the Channel beside the town's fishing harbour, which still works, and in the weeks before Christmas it fills with more than 50 huts styled on fishermen's sheds. Independent makers and creators trade there, with street food stalls alongside. The lights go on at 7pm on opening night, and through the season there is lit-up mini golf over 12 holes and a sauna with a hot tub and plunge pools. Later come the Folkestone Christmas Tractor Run, tractors strung with lights rolling into the harbour, and The Muppet Christmas Carol on the Harbour Screen on Christmas Eve. The Arm was once the railway terminal for the Boulogne ferry and the place troops left from for the Western Front, and from it you can look back to the White Cliffs and across towards France.
