Derbyshire County Show
Derbyshire County Show goes back to 1860, when landowners and farmers set up the Derbyshire Agricultural Show. Today it fills one Sunday each June at its showground in Elvaston. In the Main Ring, Shetland ponies and their jockeys race for the 'Derbyshire Dash' as the crowd backs a winner. Dairy and beef cattle and many breeds of sheep are judged in the morning, and exhibitors chat with visitors later on. The Countryside Area has stick makers, basket weavers, stone carvers, wool spinners and beekeepers at work, and there are horses and ponies, vintage tractors and engines, a miniature railway and have-a-go archery. For children there are inflatables, magicians, mini rovers and a fun fair. Parking is free, and dogs are welcome on a short lead.
