When is the Buckfast Abbey Christmas Market?
It runs from Thursday 26 to Saturday 28 November 2026, from 10am to 5pm each day.
Where is it?
At Buckfast Abbey, Buckfastleigh, Devon, TQ11 0EE. The what3words address for the main car park is ///scorching.bigger.whom. If you are driving on the A38 between Plymouth and Exeter, take the Dart Bridge turn off and follow the brown signs. The nearest railway stations are Totnes (5.7 miles), Newton Abbot (8.2 miles) and Ivybridge (9.0 miles).
How much does it cost to get in?
Entry is £1 per person, paid on the day by cash or card. Anyone who comes on the free Christmas shuttle bus gets in free by showing their ticket at the entrance.
Is there parking?
Yes. Parking is free, in numerous car parks at Buckfast Abbey. Blue Badge parking is available in the main Abbey car park; please have your Blue Badge with you on the day.
Is there a free bus?
Yes. The Abbey runs a free Christmas shuttle bus on all three days, picking up and dropping off around the local area. Its published timetable links Totnes (from the Seven Stars Hotel and Station Road), Buckfast Abbey, Buckfastleigh (Plymouth Road and Woodholm Car Park) and Ashburton (War Memorial and Bull Ring). The timetable is on the Abbey's Christmas Market page.
What is there to see and do?
The market has more stalls than before, selling handmade gifts, artisan pieces and seasonal treats, and the Abbey publishes its list of stallholders on its Christmas Market page. The Abbey promises live performances throughout the three days from local artists. Its entertainment itinerary lists Schiller Hall performances, a Mummers Play (a traditional folk play) outside the Abbey, an Abbey church tour and an Advent carol service inside it; the itinerary does not say which day each falls on, so check the times on the Abbey's Christmas Market page. The Abbey also lists alpacas, children's activities and Abbey tours.
Is there food and drink?
Yes. The Abbey mentions turkey baps, mince pies, mulled wine and Monks Lager and Ale. The Abbey's restaurants are open as usual, with extra seating and refreshments in the conference centre. No alcohol may be brought on to the site, and exhibitors selling alcohol for off-site consumption operate a Challenge 25 policy.
Can I pay by card?
Cash and card are accepted at Abbey venues and event stands. Most exhibitors take both, but the Abbey advises bringing cash just in case.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, on a short lead at all times. Dogs are welcome in the gardens and grounds, and inside Abbot's Way Café and Grange Restaurant. Elsewhere indoors, including the Shop, the Monastic Exhibition and the Abbey Church, only assistance dogs are permitted.
Is it accessible?
The Abbey has not yet published access details for the market. Blue Badge parking is available in the main Abbey car park, so bring your badge. Toilets are in the car park and below the Grange Restaurant. For access questions, the Abbey's telephone number is 01364 645500.
Where do I go for first aid or if someone gets lost?
The first aid room is next to the main site bathrooms, under the Grange Restaurant, and an events security team is on site throughout. Anyone who gets separated should meet at Westgate Arch, the entrance.
