Bakewell Country Festival
Bakewell Country Festival is the summer day out of Bakewell Agricultural and Horticultural Society, a charity whose roots go back to a livestock show in July 1819. It took over from Bakewell Show and now fills Bakewell Showground, in Derbyshire's Peak District, for one Sunday aimed at young families. Farming stays at its heart, with heavy horse and sheep competitions that each have a young handlers class, and craftspeople show farriery, besom broom making and dry stone walling. Local chefs cook in the Culinary Theatre, classic cars have their own display and dogs can enter the companion class, which raises money for the air ambulance. Add conservation groups, local food and breweries, and the day raises funds for a society with a training grant scheme for the local rural economy.
