Christmas Market at Avebury
The Christmas Market at Avebury is held in a thatched barn built for threshing in the 17th century, in the Old Farmyard of a Wiltshire village partly ringed by the largest prehistoric stone circle in the world and the huge bank and ditch of its henge. Run by the National Trust over three weekends in late November and December, it brings together local gift stalls with artisan wares such as engraved wood, ceramics and handmade jewellery, with carols and folk music playing as you shop. All ages are welcome, entry is free and there is nothing to book. The old barn is not heated, and with little mobile signal the Trust says card payment can be unreliable, so cash is asked for. Circles Café, also in the Old Farmyard, serves lunches and cakes, and the stone circle is part of the village.
