Ashbourne Show

Saturday 21 August 2027
The Polo Ground, Osmaston, Derbyshire(DE6 1LW)

Ashbourne Show began with shire horses: in 1881 four men set up a society to improve the breed, and its first show followed the same year on the Paddock in Ashbourne. The Ashbourne Shire Horse Society still puts it on, royal patronage dates from 1899, and more than 12,000 visitors now fill the Polo Ground at Osmaston each August. Heavy horses stay at the heart of the day, with a ring of their own and seats beside it, and after lunch the ridden heavy horses take the main ring. Around them are cattle, sheep including rare and native breeds, goats and poultry, vintage tractors, and a produce class for the wonkiest vegetable. Over 100 trade stands, a craft marquee and a food hall of local cheeses and beers complete a family day out, with free parking.
