Alwinton Border Shepherds' Show
Alwinton Border Shepherds' Show is the last agricultural show of the border season, held for more than 150 years on its show field at Alwinton, in Upper Coquetdale within Northumberland National Park. For hill farmers it marks the end of summer, and the day carries that spirit: collies at work in the sheepdog trials, fell races for adults and children, and Cumberland & Westmorland wrestling in the main ring. Bring your dog along for the open dog show, then stay for the terrier racing. The exhibition tents hold baking, preserves, handicrafts and the contest for the biggest onion, with trade stands, a craft tent and a farmers' market around the field. A traditional hill-country day out to close the show year in Coquetdale.
