For two days in late November, the Guest Hall at Alnwick Castle in Northumberland is given over to a Christmas fair of 22 handpicked stallholders. Alnwick Soap Company, Garden Room Bakery, Pourable Candle Co. and Wine on the Tyne are among them, alongside other local makers with handcrafted gifts and seasonal treats. Tuesday is the preview evening, when ticket holders get the first chance at the stalls, with canapés and a welcome drink from Ad Gefrin. Wednesday is the Christmas market day, a family day out with food and refreshments and a last chance to tick off the gift list. Both days are held in support of the fair's Charity of the Year, Smile For Life, which helps young people who are disabled or disadvantaged.
